Coaching InforMATION

Coaches play a vital role in shaping not only players’ skills, but also their confidence, teamwork, and love for the game. At every level of soccer, great coaches create a positive environment where athletes can grow both on and off the field. Whether you’re a former player or simply passionate about the sport, anyone can step up to coach and make a meaningful impact in their local soccer community.

  • Coaches Registration Instructions

IMPORTANT:  There are new options in the US Soccer Learning Center.

You are only required to complete Phase 1 "Intro to Safety" and "Safe Sport".  Then please link to the Washington Youth Soccer background check in step 3 below.

Do not use the Background Check link in the US Soccer Learning Center.  It is not the correct background check for WYS coaches.

    Current requirements include:

    • Safe Sport Training - Federal Law
    • Intro Into Safety US Soccer - Washington State Law (Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest)
    • Social Security Background Check – US Soccer requires that background checks include each applicant's Social Security Number.  This meets industry standards and ensures that the findings are accurate

  • Who Can Coach?

    COACHES NEEDED

Coaches for the Olympia United Soccer Club are volunteer adults and youth age 15 and older. Parents often step forward and volunteer to coach the team their child plays on. There are a few coaches within the club who do not have children playing in the club but coach because they enjoy the experience.

The Olympia United Soccer Club always has opportunities for volunteer coaches. A lack of coaches can result in interested children not having the opportunity to play. OUSC can field only as many teams as we have volunteers to coach them.

For more information on becoming a coach contact the Club Manager at olyunited@hotmail.com

How much experience is needed to coach?

Some coaches in OUSC are current or former soccer players with many years of playing and coaching experience. However, no prior soccer experience is necessary. The Club provides program specific coach training for it's Super Mod coaches (U4-U7 players). OUSC's umbrella association, TCYSA, will be working to provide coach training opportunities for coaches at older age groups.

All coaches must receive Risk Management Clearance through WSYSA. If you are going to coach a team for OUSC you need to register online through this website. When registration is open for a particular season, simply click on 'Registration' link for the program into which you wish to register. Click on the 'Volunteer' option, answer the questions, and you're done!  **Note that coaches also need to complete some online training modules and submit for a background check.  More Information HERE.

    Coach Training Modules and Licensing

OUSC encourages all its coaches to receive coaches training and will reimburse for some of the courses.
